What if my dog. . .

… Needs to be leashed at all times.

Not to worry! In fact, the majority of the dogs I photograph stay on leash. The only time they should be off-leash is when we’re working in a securely fenced-in or private area. (Or if you are 100% confident in your pet’s recall ability in any situation.)

Staying on a leash also helps makes it a bit easier to guide your pup into the perfect position.

Don’t worry though, all leashes will be meticulously removed from any portrait ordered in artwork form.

If your pet normally wears a harness, prong, or e-collar, please bring a flat collar they can wear for the shoot.

is cute, but doesn’t know sit!

As a former trainer, I’ve worked with pups of all ages and levels of obedience. We work at their pace and I have lots of tricks (and treats!) in my back pocket to guide them where we want them, gain their attention, and get the shots you love! Please don’t let your pet’s age or obedience level hold you back from this experience.

— You’ve got more questions —

Where can we do our session?

The possibilities are endless! While I have my favorite go-to spots in Richmond area, we’ll discuss locations during our planning consultation. If there’s a spot special to you, whether a trail by the river or in your own backyard, I find having your session there often produces wonderful, familiar, sentimental portraits.

How can I make my pup look her best?

Professional grooming will help your dog look their best for their portraits. If you’re unable to get them professionally pampered, a good bath, brushing, and nail trim will go a long way. Don’t forget to clean those collars too! (Some clients even like to purchase new special collars just for the session.)

Grooming can be a tiring experience for your pup; for this reason I recommend scheduling their spa time at least two days before your session.

We'll discuss ways you can prep your pup (and yourself) more in depth during our planning consultation.

How long do sessions last?

Typically sessions are about an hour and a half depending on location, the number of four-legged friends, and your dog's pace. Upland Hunt Sessions can be up to 4 or so hours, all said and done.

If your pup needs a few breaks here and there, that's okay! 90 minutes is not a hard and fast limit; we work until we get the shots or the light runs out. Conversely, if your dog is more of a pro-model than Kate Upton, we may get all the shots we need within 45 minutes.

The most important thing to know is that you’ll never feel rushed during any of our times together. I take a limited amount of clients per month and whether it’s during our planning consult, the actual session, or your Reveal & Ordering appointment, you are my only priority when we’re together.

Can I bring the whole pack?

Absolutely! I just ask that if there's more than three, you bring a dog-wrangler with you.

Can I be in the portraits too?

Of course! Actually, this is a hill I will (lovingly) die on. I want everyone to be in at least a handful of photos with your dog. YOU are a huge part of their story and your relationship deserves to be documented!

And if you're a little camera shy, please don't stress. I’ll help you every step of the way, from choosing your wardrobe to guiding you into each pose. And if you’re SUPER camera shy, there are plenty of creative ways to show off your bond while keeping the focus on your pup.

Plus, you don't have to purchase any photo you aren't in love with, so let's at least give it a go!

Still unsure? Check out my blog on the top 5 ways to be included in your dogs photos.

What happens if it rains?

As the majority of our sessions are in the great outdoors, if the weather doesn’t play nice, we may need to reschedule. I’ll monitor the weather a few days ahead of our session and will be in touch if rescheduling is in order.

I'm ready to book. Now what?

Great! Whether you want to chat first or are ready to dive right in, the first step is to click the "Get in Touch" button at the top of this site and fill in your details. You'll receive an email from my pup with more details on your session and a link to schedule a zero-obligation call, just to make sure I'm the right photographer for you.

My pup is nervous. Is that ok?

Absolutely! My first priority is the comfort and safety of your pup. My dog Leroy is a bit shy around new people himself. When we first meet, I’ll take some time to greet and let your pup warm up to me and my camera. Once they’re ready, we’ll get to work!

When can we have our session?

Most sessions take place during golden hour (2ish hours before sunset) Monday through Wednesday. Limited Friday sessions are available each month on a first come/first serve basis. Extremely limited weekend sessions are available as an upgrade.

When and how will I receive my portraits?

Shortly after our session, we'll get together to view only the best portraits from the day. We'll go one by one to choose your favorites and finalize how you want to display them.

After that, I'll retouch your final portraits, (removing distractions, leashes, stray hairs, etc.) and send them out for production.

Your artwork can take anywhere from 4 to 14 weeks to produce and deliver to you.

What does artwork credit mean?

Your session reservation retainer includes a credit to spend on artwork during your Reveal & Ordering appointment. This credit can be put towards any artwork you'd like to purchase.

What can I do with these portraits?

I offer only the highest quality, finished, ready-to-display products for your personal enjoyment. Hang a stunning framed canvas in your home; display gorgeous a lay-flat album on the coffee table; grab a portrait collection to display in frames for the office or to share with the family.

If you’re in the pet or outdoor industry and interested in a branding photography session for your business, please get in touch! I'd like to book a session, but my dog doesn't have much time left.

I'm so sorry. There's no way around saying this - this part of the journey just fucking sucks. Having been in this situation many times, I know how heartbreaking it is and how quickly it can happen. Please let me know when we chat, and I’ll do everything I can to adjust my schedule to squeeze your family in as soon as possible.
