Richmond VA series: River City Vet Hospital

Having proudly served the Richmond pet community since 2014, River City Vet Hospital has new digs!

But don’t worry, they haven’t moved too far, just right across the street — now at 5220 West Broad St, Richmond, VA 23230.

Lead by husband and wife team, Dr. Anthony O'Sullivan, and Dr. Heather O'Sullivan, RCVH was founded on the premise that a personal connection with patients helps promote health and well-being.

I first met the O’Sullivans last year through a portrait session with their Golden Retriever, Kasten, and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Darby. (Along with their two precious kiddos.) We connected over the soul dog bond during our session and I just had this gut feeling they’d be the best team to help Kona and me as we navigated the end of our journey together.

And hot damn, was my gut right. The level of care, compassion, empathy, and honesty I received, not only from Dr. Anthony & Dr. Heather but the whole staff, is unmatched. Whenever we would visit, Kona would get lots of ear scratches, snuggles, and as much cheese as she wanted. Everyone greeted us with a smile and treated us like they were glad to see us, even when she was pooping on their floor. (She had kind of lost control towards the end there.

Their guidance and reassurance through the whole end-stage process were what brought me peace and helped me sleep at night.

When I brought Cedar home, I knew there wasn’t anyone else in town who I’d rather have as her care team. While Kona never got to experience their new office, little Cedar has visited many a time for vaccines, puppy visits, and a very scary blood sugar incident. (All turned out okay!) She loves it there, every time we pull up, she happily jumps out of the van and makes a beeline for the front door, ready for her pets and snuggles.

I can’t put into words what having a knowledgeable vet team I can trust to tell me what I need to hear in a compassionate and empathetic way means to me.

I just know I’ve found our forever vet home.
